Main History 
Established as Yuzhang Commandery in the Western Han, Nanchang has long been the seat of Jiangxi Province. On August 1, 1927, the Nanchang Uprising erupted here, earning the city the title “Birthplace of the People’s Liberation Army”. Today it is the provincial capital and a nationally renowned historic city.

Geographic Position in China
Northern Jiangxi, on the southwest shore of Lake Poyang, at the confluence of the Gan and Fu Rivers; core of the middle-Yangtze urban agglomeration.

Geographic Features
“West hills, east waters” — rolling hills alternate with alluvial plains, dotted with numerous lakes. The Gan River cuts through the city, and Mount Meiling (841.4 m) stands to the west.

Climate Characteristics
Sub-tropical humid monsoon: hot summers, cool winters, concurrent rain and heat. Annual sunshine is abundant.

Signature Specialties
Nanchang mixed rice noodles, clay-pot soup, stir-fried pork with Artemisia selengensis, white-sugar cake, Poyang Lake whitebait.

 

Tengwang Pavilion: a landmark in Nanchang, famous for its "Preface to Tengwang Pavilion". Climbing the pavilion can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Gan River, and night tours are especially good.

Meiling Scenic Area: It has beautiful natural scenery, suitable for mountain climbing and summer vacation, as well as entertainment activities such as rafting.

Qiushui Square: It has the largest musical fountain in Asia, with spectacular performances at night, and also allows visitors to visit the People's Heroes Memorial Tower.
