Guiyang, as the capital of Guizhou Province, has rich natural scenery and profound historical and cultural heritage, attracting many domestic and foreign tourists. Main History 
Founded as Guiyang Prefecture in 1413 during the Ming dynasty, the city was named for its location south of Guishan. Long the capital of Guizhou, Guiyang became a key transport and trading hub in southwest China. Today it is the core of China’s National Big Data Pilot Zone and celebrated as the “Cool Capital of China.”

Four principal stations: Guiyang Railway Station, Guiyang North, Guiyang East, and Guiyang South (mainly freight).

Metro Opening & Network
First metro line opened 28 December 2017; as of June 2025 three lines (Lines 1, 2, 3) are in operation.

Geographic Position in China
Central Guizhou, on the eastern slope of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau along the watershed between the Yangtze and Pearl River basins.

Geographic Features
Karst plateau hills dominate, rising in the southwest and falling toward the northeast. The city sits in a basin at 880–1,659 m a.s.l., cut by rivers and dotted with peak-cluster depressions.

Sub-tropical humid monsoon: mild winters, cool summers, mean annual temperature 15.3 °C; frequent night rain, high humidity, weak UV, earning the nickname “Cool Guiyang.”

Chang-wang noodles, si-wa-wa (vegetable roll), tofu balls, love tofu, sour-soup fish, mutton rice noodles.


Qingyan Ancient Town: An ancient town with a history of more than 600 years, which retains a large number of Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings, is an excellent place to experience the style of ancient towns in Guizhou.

Qianling Mountain Park: The urban green lung of Guiyang, integrating mountains, rivers, ancient temples, and wild animals, suitable for hiking, praying, and getting close to nature.

Tianhe Lake: with unique karst landform, it has caves, waterfalls and canyons. A highlight is the boat tour in the water cave.
