Main History
Founded as Guiyang Prefecture in 1413 during the Ming dynasty, the city was named for its location south of Guishan. Long the capital of Guizhou, Guiyang became a key transport and trading hub in southwest China. Today it is the core of China’s National Big Data Pilot Zone and celebrated as the “Cool Capital of China.”

Geographic Features
Karst plateau hills dominate, rising in the southwest and falling toward the northeast. The city sits in a basin at 880–1,659 m a.s.l., cut by rivers and dotted with peak-cluster depressions.

Tianhe Lake: with unique karst landform, it has caves, waterfalls and canyons. A highlight is the boat tour in the water cave.
Jiaxiu Tower: A landmark of Guiyang, built in the Ming Dynasty, with bright lights at night, it is a good place for shooting night views.
Hongfeng Lake: an artificial lake on the plateau, with red maple forests by the lake and beautiful scenery of mountains and lakes, suitable for leisure and vacation.
